In late December, Anthony Marshall, son of the
late Brooke Astor, and attorney Francis X. Morrissey were both sentenced to a state
prison term of one to three years for defrauding and stealing from the legendary
philanthropist. NCEA recently interviewed New York County Assistant District Attorney
Elizabeth Loewy. The prosecutor who initiated the investigation and served on the
trial team, about the trial, the verdict, and the Office’s specialized elder abuse
prosecution unit.
The Elder Financial Protection Network recently received an FDIC
Chairman’s Award for its innovation in collaboration, outreach, and education efforts
to prevent elder financial exploitation.
The U.S Administration on Aging will convene
a series of listening forums to gather input from aging services, policymakers,
and the public regarding the upcoming reauthorization of the Older Americans Act.
