    Elder Justice: Community Collaborations

Here are some of the highlights:

Medical Research Explores the Link between Elder Mistreatment and Mortality Risk – Dr. XinQi Dong and colleagues analyze the relationship between self-neglecting and abused elders and risk for premature death in a longitudinal, population-based health study in Chicago.

For the first time, researchers evaluate the costs and value of using Daily Money Management programs as a means to enhance not only financial security of vulnerable elders, but also independence and quality of life. Read this contribution by Debra Sacks of the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging and Longevity.

Join us on September 25th for the upcoming NCEA webcast which will feature the Elder Justice Community Collaboration initiative.

Each year, selected organizations receive NCEA funding to develop new, local elder justice networks and to develop strategies to address detection, intervention, and prevention of elder abuse. The new coalitions participate in a one-day, kick-off training on building successful coalitions, and leave the training with a Strategic Plan that serves as a roadmap for their continued growth and success. To date, 24 coalitions have been funded. This presentation will feature an overview of the training and development process of these new coalitions.
